WINONA LAKE — Community leaders will celebrate the opening of the Miller Sunset Pavilion’s ice rink with a ribbon cutting Wednesday, Nov. 16, and free skating on Saturday, Nov. 19.
That news was announced during Winona Lake Town Council’s meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The K21 Health Foundation will sponsor Saturday’s free skate as part of the grand opening. The pavilion is located along Park Avenue in Winona Lake. Free skating will be available from noon to 8 p.m.
Saturday’s grand opening coincides with the annual tree lighting ceremony and other Christmas events organized by The Village at Winona.
The tree lighting should take place 6:15-6:30-ish p.m., said Village Managing Director Nick Hauck. It’s by LetterWood.
There will be train rides around the island from 3:30-6-ish, he added.
“We’ll have ornament making underneath the center pavilion in the Village (in the brick alley),” he said. That should be from 3:30-6:30 p.m., with there also being carolers in the Village then.
People can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies and see Santa from 5:30-6:15 p.m. The event includes a toy collection for Toys for Tots. Attendees are asked to bring new, unwrapped items.
