Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 4:41 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, East CR 500N, west of EMS T7 Lane, Leesburg. Driver: James L. Boggs, 53, South CR 900W, Mentone. Boggs was traveling west on East CR 500N when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
- 1:38 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, West US 30, east of North CR 500W, Atwood. Driver: Joe D. Stephens, 55, South CR 200W, Claypool. Stephens was traveling east on West US 30 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $2,500.
- 10:39 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, South SR 13, south of East CR 150S, Pierceton. Driver: Kevin M. Trump, 60, Wooster Road Lot 13, Winona Lake. Trump was traveling north on South SR 13 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $10,000.
- 8:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, West US 30, east of North Fox Farm Road, Warsaw. Driver: Rodger L. Paseka, 62, Chestnut Road, Bourbon. Paseka was traveling west on West US 30 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $10,000.
- 6:52 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, North SR 15, south of West CR 600N, Warsaw. Driver: Desiree D. Null, 19, West 3rd Street A., Ligonier. Null was traveling north on North SR 15 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
- 1:01 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, West CR 100S, east of South CR 775W, Warsaw. Driver: Brooke S. Espinoza, 30, West Jackson Street, Mentone. Espinoza was traveling east on West CR 100S when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
- 6:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, West SR 14, south of South County Farm Road, Silver Lake. Driver: Jason T. Kline, 35, North SR 19, Etna Green. Kline was traveling east on West SR 14 when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
- 7:32 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, North CR 500W, north of West CR 300N, Warsaw. Driver: Kennedy R. Tennant, 22, West CR 700N, Leesburg. A parked vehicle belonging to Ayr Farms LLC, Nappanee, had two corn grain carts attached to it and was on the east side of North CR 500W when the carts were hit by Tennant’s vehicle. Tennant sustained a minor cut to her hand and complained of knee pain. Damage up to $50,000.
- 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, West CR 900N, west of North CR 250W, Milford. Driver: Nicholas J. Hellinga, 36, North Main Street, Bourbon. Hellinga was traveling east on CR 900N when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $10,000.
- 11:46 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, East CR 400S, south of South Packerton Road, Warsaw. Driver: Grace E. Miller, 21, Windmill Circle, Carmel. Miller was traveling north on South Packerton Road when a deer entered the roadway. Damage up to $5,000.
North Webster
Officers with the North Webster Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 6:06 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, SR 13, north of Covered Bridge Lane, North Webster. Driver: Jerry W. Himes, 62, Violett Road, Goshen. Himes was traveling north on SR 13 when a deer entered the roadway. His vehicle hit the deer and then entered a ditch near Family Express. No injuries were reported. Damage up to $25,000.
- 1:46 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, North SR 13, north of East CR 1000N, North Webster. Driver: Angela D. Shoemaker, 58, East CR 500N, Leesburg. Shoemaker’s vehicle left the roadway, entering the yard of Vineyard Church. Damage up to $2,500.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
10:25 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, South Huntington Street, north of East Pickwick Drive, Syracuse. Drivers: Scott A. Allen, 49, EMS W28 Lane, North Webster; and Mary Haq, 69, North Lake Street, Syracuse. Allen was backing his vehicle from a parking space when he hit Haq’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 4:52 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, US 30, east of Springhill Road, Warsaw. Drivers: Ashley R. Miller, 32, North Union Street, Warsaw; Sydney A. Miller, 31, East Madiston Street, North Webster; and Kyle M. Pepich, 36, Larrabee Drive, Geneva, Ill. Ashley was traveling west on US 30 when she rear-ended Sydney’s vehicle. This resulted in Sydney’s vehicle rear-ending Pepich’s. Ashley was taken to a local hospital by family for a complaint of chest pain. A passenger in Ashley’s vehicle, Gwen Miller, 5, Warsaw, was checked by medics at the scene for neck pain. Sydney complained of neck and back pain and was taken to a local hospital.
- 8:06 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, US 30, near East Center Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Victor Santos, 58, 76th Street 4B., Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Everett C. Shelton, 67, West 119th Street 103, Alsip, Ill. Santos was traveling west on US 30 in a semi and was heading toward the East Center Street intersection when he ran a red light and hit a school bus, driven by Shelton. The school bus had a total of 25 passengers in it. Shelton said he had a green turn arrow to travel north on East Center Street when the bus was hit by Santos’ semi. The bus was hit with such an abruptness that it caused the bus to flip over onto its driver side. Multiple medical personnel were called to the scene for various injuries. Santos showed signs of impairment at the time of the accident and was arrested at the scene. Four witnesses who were behind Santos’ vehicle said Santos was straddling the yellow line in the middle of the roadway and called 911 to report the reckless driving behavior prior to the accident occurring. Surveillance footage from a local business shows Santos approaching the East Center Street intersection at a high rate of speed and hitting the school bus. Santos and Shelton were uninjured. The following school bus passengers were injured in the accident: Owen Huffman, 15, Oak Park, Ill., was possibly ejected from the bus and lost consciousness. He sustained a broken sacrum, ruptured bladder, lacerations to his spleen and liver, as well as rib and pelvic fractures. Jack Rogers, 15, Downers Grove, Ill., was possibly ejected from the bus. He sustained a pelvic fracture, skull fracture, liver laceration and lung bruising. Rogers also lost consciousness at the scene. James Doherty, 15, Chicago, Ill., complained of head pain. Nic Lissuzzo, 15, River Forest, Ill., sustained a bump to his head and a small bruise to his ankle. Jackson Bossert, 15, Chicago, Ill., complained of soreness and pain to his shin. Samuel Reif, 14, Chicago, Ill., sustained minor lacerations and complained of head pain. Patrick Altman, 17, Chicago, Ill., complained of head, right hand, shoulder and ankle pain. He also sustained a busted lip. Jonathan Walsh, 15, Chicago, Ill., complained of shoulder and ankle pain. He also sustained spleen, lung, and facial lacerations. John Lyons, 15, Ellsworth Park, Ill., complained of ankle pain and sustained minor lacerations. Alex Cook, 14, Chicago, Ill., complained of facial and jaw pain. Kiefer Gilbertson, 15, Chicago, Ill., sustained head lacerations. Lucas Joa, 15, Chicago, Ill., complained of head and knee pain. Augustus Bergman, 14, Chicago, Ill., injured his left hand and sustained a facial laceration. Nicholas Smat, 16, Chicago, Ill., sustained injuries to his finger and head. Ari Ram, 15, Chicago, Ill., complained of knee pain. Carson Gelatka, 15, Saint John, complained of head pain and left wrist pain. He also sustained minor lacerations. Nicholas Nocera, 14, Chicago, Ill., sustained bruising and a cut to his hip. Colin McGrath, 17, Riverside, Ill., sustained a possible fractured jaw and shoulder injury. Emmett Murphy, 16, Chicago, Ill., sustained a bump to his head and had a sore neck. Brooks Colmone, 14, Bur Ridge, Ill., sustained a cut and a bump to his head. Damage up to $100,000.
- 6:14 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, SR 15, near Plaza Drive, Warsaw. Drivers: Lloyd R. Hostetler, 68, Timber Trail, Goshen; and Krista S. Ann Brumbaugh, 47, East Levi Lee Road Lot 107, Warsaw. Hostetler was traveling north on SR 15 and was attempting to change lanes when he hit Ann Brumbaugh’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
- 3:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 1 Tiger Lane, Warsaw. Drivers: Brynndelyn G. Wood, 17, Belmont Drive, Warsaw; and Ella M. Perkins, 16, Peach Tree Lane, Winona Lake. Wood was traveling in Warsaw Community High School’s parking lot and was turning in a T-intersection when she hit Perkins’ vehicle. Wood did not yield to Perkins’ vehicle, which was traveling southbound. No injuries were reported. Damage up to $10,000.
- 6:26 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, US 30, near CR 200N, Warsaw. Drivers: Chandler D. Farmer, 21, Robson Road, Winona Lake; and Jaxon W. Simerman, 22, Lake Valley Court, Fort Wayne. Farmer was traveling south on CR 200N when he ran a red light at the Lake City Highway intersection and hit Simerman’s vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage up to $10,000.
- 6:07 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, West CR 250N, near North Rainbow Drive, Warsaw. Drivers: Michelle M. Sutton, 43, West Smith Street, Warsaw; and Allison M. Lutes, 34, West CR 800N, Nappanee. Sutton was attempting to turn west onto West CR 250N when she hit Lutes’ vehicle. Lutes was traveling west on West CR 250N at the time of the accident. No injuries were reported. Damage up to $10,000.
- 4:14 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, South CR 250E, south of East US 30, Warsaw. Drivers: Martha E. Smith, 54, South Fifth Street, Pierceton; and Jacob J. Vanmantgem, 45, Sleeper Street, Kalamazoo, Mich. Smith said she turned off of US 30 onto South CR 250E when she hit Vanmantgem’s vehicle. A witness said Smith’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit Vanmantgem’s vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage up to $50,000.
- 8:53 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, Dubois Drive and Provident Drive, Warsaw. Driver: Brenda B. Baumgartner, 71, EMS B40A Lane, Leesburg. Baumgartner thought she could turn left onto Dubois Drive and the sun was in her eyes. She drove onto the curbed median and ran over the “Do Not Enter” sign. Damage up to $10,000.
Winona Lake
Officers with the Winona Lake Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, Kings Highway, near Jefferson Drive, Winona Lake. Drivers: Roxanne Wildman, 68, South Zimmer Road, Warsaw; and Grace M. Friedberg, 17, East Main Street, Warsaw. Wildman was driving a school bus and was turning left onto Jefferson Drive when she hit Friedberg’s vehicle. Damage up to $5,000.
