WARSAW — A Warsaw man will serve nine years in prison after molesting two children.
John Jeremy Sutherlin, 31, Warsaw, was charged with two counts of child molesting, both level 3 felonies. Two additional counts of child molesting were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Sutherlin was sentenced in Kosciusko Superior Court One on Monday, Nov. 7.
For each count of child molesting, Sutherlin was sentenced to 12 years at the Indiana Department of Correction. Both counts will run concurrently, or at the same time. Nine years will be executed, and three years were suspended on probation.
Sutherlin must pay $2,331.14 in restitution. No-contact orders between Sutherlin and the children will remain in effect. He must also register as a sex offender.
In July 2021, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of two children being molested by Sutherlin. In interviews with officers, both children described being inappropriately touched by Sutherlin.
Sutherlin submitted to a polygraph examination in October 2021, which determined that Sutherlin was deceptive while answering questions about inappropriately touching the children.
At sentencing, the children’s mother testified about the molestations.
“You did the most damage to them,” said the children’s mother to Sutherlin. “They’re not the same. You’ve shown no remorse for the things you’ve done.”
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Sobek said there were multiple aggravators to the case, including the extensive damage done to the victims.
Defense Attorney Jay Rigdon said Sutherlin was not going to try and justify his actions, but noted his client’s remorse and responsibility for his actions.
Sutherlin did not provide any statement in court.
