Land Of Oz Sweeps Into The Syracuse Public Library
News Release
SYRACUSE — The Land of Oz has swept into the Syracuse Public Library, and now during the entire month of November, you can test your wits and try to solve the library’s latest escape room — “Escape From Oz.”
During library hours, starting Monday, Oct. 31, through Wednesday, Nov. 30, visit the Rosalyn Jones Room/young adult space to take your turn. The ideal group comprises three to six people; however, other group sizes are welcome, too. Each group has 45 minutes to solve the escape room.
Escape hours are shortened on select days to allow for young adult programming, such as the video gaming group that meets from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4.
For information about the escape room or to reserve a time for your group, email Michelle Parker at [email protected] or call the library at (574) 457-3022.
Celebrating Reading With ‘My Voyage Begins’ Celebration
Join the party that concludes SPL’s “My Voyage Begins” 2022 reading challenge from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at the Eagles Lodge, 12889 N. Kern Road, Syracuse. If you plan to attend, notify the Syracuse Public Library beforehand. Plus-ones are welcome to come, but anyone who didn’t sign up to participate in the reading challenge will be charged $5.
Tasty morsels are planned for a snack bar, and a bartender will be on hand for the purchase of sodas and over-21 drinks.
During the evening, prizes will be awarded for different categories. There will also be random drawings. A “spokaoke” will remain open for anyone wanting to share a favorite quote or spontaneously declare their love of reading. Additionally, a book playoff will occur to determine the best book read in 2022.
Titles for the best book read of 2022 can be submitted to Becky Brower at [email protected] before the event. For information, call the library at (574) 457-3022 or email Brower.
Children’s Programming
Before Election Day, children will learn about voting during the homeschool program at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the downstairs meeting room. Younger children, meanwhile, can join storytime at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday for stories, play and crafts or coloring.
While visiting the children’s department, pick up a take-and-make craft kit or complete the library’s weekly scavenger hunts.
Library Closures
The Syracuse Public Library’s children’s department will close for the entire day on Monday, Oct. 31, to decorate for its “Wizard of Oz” Halloween program from 6-8 p.m. The rest of the library will close early at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 so staff can dress in their costumes.
The Syracuse Public Library will also close Friday, Nov. 4, for a staff development day.
