Warsaw Man Accused Of Battering, Raping Woman
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was recently arrested on six felony charges after allegedly battering and threatening to kill a woman while in possession of a rifle.
Drew Adym Streeter, 36, Warsaw, is charged with rape, a level 1 felony; confinement, a level 3 felony; intimidation and battery, both level 5 felonies; and strangulation and pointing a firearm, both level 6 felonies.
On Oct. 8, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy and Winona Lake Police officer responded to a domestic battery report. Dispatch said a woman was hiding in a basement from Streeter, who assaulted her.
While heading to the scene, officers also learned the woman was with two other people and that Streeter was possibly under the influence of drugs.
The Winona Lake officer arrived at the residence first and noticed the home’s front door was wide open. The officer called out to Streeter, who exited the home.
According to court documents, while searching the home, officers found a firearm near the basement.
The woman told officers she woke up and saw Streeter sitting on the edge of a bed while ingesting what appeared to be narcotics. A Warsaw officer at the scene found a piece of burnt foil in the home’s bathroom.
When she attempted to leave the bedroom, Streeter allegedly grabbed an AR-15 style rifle from underneath the bed and said she wasn’t going anywhere. Streeter then inserted a magazine into the firearm and racked the action back. He pointed the rifle at the woman and said he was going to kill her. He also hit the woman in the head about three or four times with the rifle.
She had bruises on her left arm and a large bump on her forehead.
During the incident, Streeter choked and smacked the woman while threatening to kill her multiple times. The woman then began to physically fight back, grabbing a hold of the rifle on both sides and pinning it against Streeter.
Streeter dropped the magazine from the rifle and put the safety on. The woman was able to get possession of the rifle, run downstairs, shut the basement door and call 911.
During the altercation, two children were sleeping in the basement. One of the children said they could hear stomping upstairs but didn’t witness the incident.
Details on the rape charge are redacted in court documents.
Streeter has a lengthy criminal history, which includes prior criminal convictions for domestic battery, battery by bodily waste to a public safety official, operating while intoxicated, public intoxication, operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator and operating a vehicle with a lifetime suspension. All of these cases are from Tippecanoe and Vermillion counties.
For this case, Streeter was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 8, with a $76,000 surety and cash bond.
As part of his bond conditions, Streeter cannot possess firearms and cannot leave Indiana.
