Man With Pending Molestation Case Faces New Charges
Staff Report
WARSAW — A man with a pending child molestation case from July 2021 is now facing child pornography possession charges.
In the first case, Devan Mikel Adams, 32, Shipshewana, is charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, both level 5 felonies; and possession of child pornography, a level 6 felony. He is also charged with voyeurism, a level 6 felony; and distribution of an intimate image, a class A misdemeanor, in a second case.
On Feb. 27, 2018, Indiana State Police investigated an unknown individual who uploaded images of child pornography to a social networking platform.
An ISP detective discovered the IP address for the user who uploaded the images originated in Warsaw. The detective obtained a search warrant for the address and discovered Adams was the address owner.
According to court documents, while speaking with officers on the phone in April 2018, Adams admitted to viewing adult videos. He said if someone sent him pornographic images of children, he would immediately delete them. Adams then abruptly ended the conversation.
In July 2021, the detective spoke with a Warsaw Police officer who had opened an investigation on Adams for child molestation and child exploitation.
A month prior, Adams admitted to posting nude images of the child in that case on the Internet without the child’s knowledge or permission.
During the investigation, officers accessed online accounts belonging to Adams and found fully nude images of the child that were distributed online.
On July 16, 2021, ISP and WPD officers interviewed Adams, who admitted to having two images of child pornography on an electronic device.
After speaking with Adams, officers spoke with a relative of Adams. The relative said after the phone call in 2018 with the detective, Adams told her to get rid of his laptop and put Internet monitoring on his electronic devices. The relative provided law enforcement with a laptop computer as part of the investigation.
In May, WPD obtained a search warrant for the laptop and found 25 images depicting child sexual assault.
That same month, the child contacted WPD to report additional intimate photos of themselves on the Internet. WPD investigated and found the photos on an account name matching one previously provided by Adams in 2021. This website was not one of three websites Adams previously provided to officers.
For these cases, Adams was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 10, with a $25,500 surety and cash bond.
