Mechelle Trent, food service director at Fellowship Mission, said their dish was prepared by Stephanie Reed, a volunteer who brings meals to the homeless shelter. The chili was based on an Emeril Lagasse recipe that does not rely on tomato paste.

WARSAW – For whatever reason, chili tasting on a chilly night in October seemed to hit the spot with visitors at First Friday Warsaw.
The monthly downtown festival hosted a chili cookoff Friday, Oct. 7, under perfect fall conditions and a pleasant crowd.
Organizations participating in Chili For Charity: Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, Beaman Home, Fear is a Liar Ministries, Fellowship Missions, Kosciusko Senior Services, LaunchPad, Live Well Kosciusko, Magical Meadows, One Dog at a Time, One Warsaw, Operation Read, Real Services, Salvation Army, United Way, Warsaw Education Foundation and Winona Lake Limitless Park.
Live music was provided by Rock of Elders.
Animal Welfare League participated in First Friday and brought along a collection of leashed dogs that are available for adoption.
The downtown festival enjoyed a good crowd at First Friday on Oct. 7.
Fellowship Missions participated in the cook-off.
A very tall Halloween monster strolled through the crowd, but most folks seemed OK with it.
Aleah Lyon, 13, is overwhelmed by friendly (and leashed) puppies Friday night on the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn. She’s a volunteer with Animal Welfare League and was with a group from the agency that brought along dogs available for adoption.
Cool temps and partly sunny skies greeted visitors to the downtown.
