WINONA LAKE — This fall, Grace College welcomes three full-time faculty members, all in the School of Business: Carol McGregor, sports management program director, Melissa Chappell, assistant professor of management and Danielle Deal, instructor of accounting. McGregor and Chappell are both transitioning from part-time to full-time faculty at Grace.

“The Business School is very excited to add these capable and accomplished professionals to our teaching team,” said Dr. Jeffrey Fawcett, dean of the School of Business at Grace. “They each bring a wealth of experience in their fields and a passion for serving our students. Each of the programs they are involved in, sport management, accounting and management, will advance in new directions because of their contributions.”

McGregor holds a Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University, where she played D1 basketball, and a masters in sports administration from Northwestern University, where she served as an assistant director of basketball operations and then as a full-time assistant coach. McGregor went on to coach women’s basketball at Murray State in Murray, Kentucky, the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne and Purdue-Fort Wayne before coming to Grace as an assistant athletic director and assistant women’s basketball coach in 2018.

McGregor looks forward to being able to expand her impact as a full-time sports management faculty this year.

“For the past several years, most of my focus has been on 15 female basketball players, which I’ve absolutely loved. But I look forward to expanding my focus to include female athletes and sport management students,” said McGregor. “I’m excited to get to know my students and be a true mentor to them. I want to keep my doors open to them and help them find what most fulfills them in a career.”

Chappell is equally eager to have more time with students in the classroom as the assistant professor of business management.

“I’ve been teaching at Grace for close to ten years, but having teaching be my focus now is so exciting,” said Chappell.

Chappell has filled a number of roles at the institution throughout the past two decades, but this is her first full-time faculty role. She began in human resources as a payroll coordinator in 2004. She then served in the business office and then the School of Professional and Online Education before she transitioned to the School of Business to serve as director of partnerships last year. In all of these roles, Chappell has managed a wide variety of projects, which has fostered in her a passion for responsible and shrewd management.

“Something I love about management is even if you are not a full-time manager with a bachelor’s in business management, everybody manages something in their life,” said Chappell. “Whatever position you have, however you’re serving God, whatever you’re doing — you’re managing something, and God’s word is filled with advice about managing your life.”

Chappell received her bachelor’s in management and MBA from Grace.

Deal is also a Grace College graduate. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting as well as her CPA. She is currently working towards an MBA from Grace. Over the course of her career, she has worked in a number of accounting roles at Flagship Enterprise Center in Anderson. Most recently, she served as the company’s controller.

Deal will teach Intermediate Managerial Accounting, Advanced Managerial Accounting, Intro to Tax and higher levels of federal/state income tax classes. She will also oversee the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program on campus, which she participated in as a student.

She is passionate about investing in accountants and helping them become competent and ready to serve.

“The profession needs accountants who are willing to work and willing to think,” said Deal. “It’s a mentally taxing job, so we need to develop students who are willing to ask questions and learn, students who will take initiative and try new things. I hope to instill that work ethic and inquiring mind in my students. I want to teach them how to engage with something new and be able to work through it.”
