Mooreland Woman Dies In Fulton County Crash
News Release
FULTON COUNTY — A Mooreland woman was killed in a crash in western Fulton County on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
According to an Indiana State Police press release, at approximately 8:37 a.m., officers from the ISP and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road 14 and CR 1100W.
The preliminary ISP crash investigation revealed Madonna Mawk, 81, was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty eastbound on SR 14 approaching CR 1100W. Evidence indicates the Jeep attempted to turn north onto CR 1100W and hit, in the driver’s side fuel tank, a westbound 2023 Peterbilt semi-tractor that was pulling a box trailer.
The Peterbilt was driven by Timothy Phelps, 44, North Vernon. Mawk was pronounced deceased at the scene. Phelps was not injured.
Mawk was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Phelps was cited under federal motor carrier regulations for possessing a radar detector.
