WINONA LAKE — Fellowship Missions of Warsaw will benefit from Canal Days in Winona Lake.
The event is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at The Village at Winona.
The main activity is the cardboard boat race along the canal, set to kick off at 12:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to build a boat to enter in the race.
People may find rules for the race and register online at villageatwinona.com/events/canal-days/regattaregistration up until Saturday. Those entering the race are encouraged to decorate their boats, with attendees getting to vote for “Best in Show” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. before the race starts.
Attendees will get one free vote for a boat, with them needing to pay for additional votes for $1 apiece, with funds raised going to Fellowship Missions.
Aside from the race, there will also be kids’ activities, food and craft and art booths.
The Village at Winona Managing Director Nick Hauck said the event is meant for people to have fun while raising funds for a good cause.
“Obviously, we want to give people a good event to come out to, (an) … event that is family-friendly not only in spectator, but in user, so they can actually participate in the event, which doesn’t always happen,” said Hauck. The event is also “to raise awareness for Fellowship Missions and the work that they do in our community.”
The schedule for the event is as follows:
- 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — Craft and art booths
- 10-11 a.m. — Cardboard boat regatta registration
- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Kids’ activities
- 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Cardboard boat “Best in Show” voting
- 12:30 p.m. — Regatta boat race
