Man Arrested For Pointing Firearm At Woman
Staff Report
SILVER LAKE — A South Bend man was arrested after allegedly pointing a firearm at a woman while making threats.
Robert Paul Lewis Jr., 22, South Bend, is charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and pointing a firearm, a level 6 felony.
On July 28, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a report about a woman being threatened in Silver Lake. While traveling to the scene, the deputy was informed that there were two women at a home trying to fight the woman.
According to court documents, moments later, the deputy was informed about a man also being at the scene and pointing a firearm at the woman who reported the incident. The man, later identified as Lewis, and the two women left the area in a silver Jeep Patriot.
While enroute to the scene, the deputy saw a silver Jeep pass him. He turned around and pulled the Jeep over. Lewis was identified as one of the Jeep’s occupants. The two women who were trying to fight the woman who reported the incident were also in the Jeep. When asked if there were weapons in the vehicle, Lewis said he had a handgun in his possession. The firearm had a bullet in the chamber.
Lewis told the deputy that one of the women in the Jeep was his girlfriend. He said his girlfriend asked him to go to a home in Silver Lake to make sure she was safe. Lewis claimed he only went to the home to make sure his girlfriend and the other woman in the Jeep were safe.
The deputy then interviewed the women in the Jeep. They both said they went to the woman’s home and yelled for her to come out. Lewis’s girlfriend said a physical altercation occurred between her and the woman; she said the woman approached and hit her in the chest, leading Lewis’s girlfriend to kick the woman in the right leg.
While the deputy was speaking with those in the Jeep, a second KCSO deputy went to speak with the woman who reported the incident. The woman said she was feuding with the two women in the Jeep on social media, and that they had been telling each other they wanted to fight.
The woman said she saw the two women walking around her home, leading her to call the police. She then walked outside to speak with the women. While outside, the woman noticed Lewis had a handgun on his person. The woman said she was kicked in the leg by Lewis’s girlfriend.
The woman who called the police said her husband began yelling at the group to leave. At that point, Lewis allegedly retrieved his firearm and pointed it toward the woman and her child. The woman went into her home and, while doing so, heard Lewis threaten to shoot her and everybody in the residence.
Currently, none of the women involved in this case are facing criminal charges.
Lewis has already been arrested and released on bond.
