Pierceton Man Arrested For Battery, Residential Entry
Staff Report
PIERCETON — A Pierceton man was arrested after allegedly battering a woman and breaking into her home.
Dontice Devon Greer, 40, 508 W. Market St., Pierceton, is charged with residential entry and strangulation, both level 6 felonies; domestic battery and interference with the reporting of a crime, both class A misdemeanors; and criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor.
On June 21, a Winona Lake Police officer responded to a domestic incident at a location in Pierceton. Upon arrival at the scene, the officer spoke with a woman who said Greer came to her home to retrieve items he left there the previous day.
According to court documents, the woman said Greer had told her earlier that he was not coming, so she was surprised to see him. The two then had a verbal argument and the woman told Greer to leave.
After Greer left, the woman locked the exterior door to the residence’s porch and closed the door between the porch and the residence. Greer forced entry through the locked exterior door, entered the home and attacked the woman. He allegedly pulled the woman’s hair, placed his hands around her neck and squeezed. The officer noticed red marks on the woman’s throat.
Greer then took the woman’s phone to prevent her from calling 911; however, she was able to get it back and Greer left the home. While leaving, Greer destroyed the home’s doorbell camera and hit a trash can with his vehicle, damaging it and spilling its contents into the street. The officer noticed a large trash can in the residence’s front yard that had its wheels broken off and was dented.
A Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office sergeant met with Greer and noticed fresh damage to his vehicle, consistent with having struck a trash can. Greer said he went to the woman’s residence but that nothing happened. He then requested to speak with an attorney.
At the time of this incident, Greer was on pretrial release in Whitley County for a drug possession case.
For this case, Greer has already been arrested and released on his own recognizance. He has an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 14, in Kosciusko Superior Court Three.
