DEWART LAKE — A pontoon boat filled with pirates, towing a rubber raft of a not-so-lucky pirate, took first place at the annual Dewart Lake Flotilla on Saturday, July 2. The entry was organized by Tara Powell.
This year’s event had the theme of “July 4th, Blast From The Past,” with at least one entry changing the theme to “Gas From The Past.”
Jason Kern, who coordinated this year’s flotilla, commented he heard numerous positive comments from the viewers around the lake. “There was a lot of enthusiasm and they (the participants) kept that enthusiasm around the lake.” Kern was also told this was one of the best flotillas they have had at the lake in quite a while.
Taking second place with an entry featuring the Statue of Liberty was T.J. Burke, and third place went to “Betsy Ross,” entered by Brenda Smith.
