ATWOOD — Three people, including two children, were taken to local hospitals after a two-vehicle accident just west of Atwood.
At 3:24 p.m. Monday, June 27, Atwood ad Etna Township Fire Departments responded to a two-vehicle accident on West US 30, north of North CR 800W, Warsaw.
Ashlee N. Moore, 31, Bourbon, was driving a silver 2012 Dodge Avenger. She was traveling north on CR 800W. At the time of this accident, US 30 was undergoing construction, with eastbound and westbound traffic using the westbound lanes of US 30. The eastbound lanes of US 30 are currently closed.
Moore told officers she approached the stop sign at the median and did not realize traffic was traveling in both directions in the westbound lanes of US 30. She only looked to the east and thought she was clear to enter traffic. Moore did not see the traffic coming from the west and pulled into the path of a red 2018 Ford F15 truck that was traveling eastbound.
The truck was driven by Duane E. Heyne, 63, Bluffton. Heyne complained of facial pain due to the accident.
The front seat passenger of Moore’s vehicle, Vanessa Goad, 16, Bourbon, was unrestrained and hit her head on the windshield. A second passenger in Moore’s vehicle, Justin Moore, 8, Bourbon, was also unrestrained and sustained a possible severe head injury.
Heyne, Goad, and Justin Moore were all taken to local hospitals for evaluations.
According to police reports on the accident, Ashlee Moore has a suspended driver’s license.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Lutheran EMS, and Indiana State Police assisted at the scene.
Damages are estimated up to $50,000.
