Plenty Of Activities During Akron Fourth of July
Staff Report
AKRON — There’s plenty planned for Akron’s Fourth of July Festival.
The annual celebration of Akron’s and America’s birthday this year has the theme of “Mayberry USA.”
According to information from organizers, the theme is meant to allow people to “stroll down memory lane honoring and reminiscing about the good old days as portrayed in the iconic town in ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ and as we experienced in Akron.”
Activities begin on Friday, June 24, with voting for the Penny-a-Vote Cute Baby Contest sponsored by the Akron Las Donas Club. That’s at Lake City Bank in town and will run through Friday, July 1.
Other events include the Miss Sparkler and Mr. Firecracker contests, which will start at 6:30 p.m. on July 1, with the Miss Akron pageant immediately following, both at the Akron Community Center.
On Saturday, July 2, Young Entrepreneur Day will once again be held at Lake City Bank from 9-11 a.m. Kids learn about entrepreneurship as they sell items.
The parade is one of the events set for Monday, July 4. It starts at 11 a.m. and runs down Mishawaka and Rochester streets.
July 4 will cap off in town with fireworks at Pike Memorial Park, set for 10 p.m. and sponsored by the Henry Township Fire Department.
