Two From Warsaw Arrested On Drug Charges
Staff Report
WARSAW — Two people from Warsaw were recently arrested on drug charges after officers went to a home to serve a warrant.
In the first case, Amber M. Chavez, 43, 4330 N. Old SR 15 Lot 221, Warsaw, is charged with dealing in a narcotic drug, a level 5 felony; and possession of a narcotic drug, a level 6 felony. Chavez was also charged with possession of a narcotic drug, possession of a syringe, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of paraphernalia, all level 6 felonies, in a second case.
Benson R. Netherland, 49, with the same address, is charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
Sometime in May, the NET43 Drug Task Force purchased 0.36 grams of Fentanyl, a narcotic drug, from Chavez. The controlled purchase was captured on digital surveillance.
On June 8, a NET43 officer went to a home to serve an arrest warrant. Netherland, Chavez and Tyler Marcial, 27, Bourbon, were all at the home. Marcial was arrested on an active warrant for a misdemeanor theft case at that time.
According to court documents, while searching a bedroom, officers found drug paraphernalia and bags with drug residue. Officers determined that the bedroom was Chavez’s; she gave officers consent to search the home. However, Netherland did not agree to a search, resulting in officers obtaining a search warrant for the residence.
During a search of the home, officers found foil with fentanyl in Chavez’s bedroom. Officers also found a syringe and other drug paraphernalia.
Netherland was also arrested on warrants from Kosciusko County. Upon searching Netherland’s person, officers found a bag containing methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe. Officers also found drug paraphernalia and bags in Netherland’s bedroom.
Following the search, Chavez and Netherland were both booked in the Kosciusko County Jail.
