WARSAW — Despite high prices, fuel sales are good at the Warsaw Municipal Airport.
Airport Manager Nick King provided that information to the Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners at its meeting on Thursday, June 16. The meeting was held on Thursday instead of the second Tuesday as usual due to scheduling conflicts with those involved.
“Things are continuing to look good. We’re actually up about 23,000 gallons year-over-year from where we were last year,” King said. “And this is the best month of fuel sales we’ve had since the pandemic started. So we are continuing to see that increase.”
“I don’t know how much more it’s going to continue to increase as the economy is flatlining,” King noted. “I don’t think we’ll see a huge fall-off, but I don’t think we’re going to set any fuel sale records at the airport this year either, but they are going up, which is very encouraging. And that is both avgas (aviation gasoline for smaller aircraft) and jet fuel.”
Power line project
CHA Consulting Inc. Deputy Project Manager Robert LaFayette gave an update on a power line project at the airport as part of his report to the board.
CHA Consulting handles engineering for the airport.
The project will lower power lines east of the airport’s east-west runway from 150 feet to about 50-60 feet.
LaFayette said the project design is progressing.
“They ran into a little bit of a snag with the Department of Natural Resources just trying to gain access to some property that they had easements on, but owned by the DNR, mainly because they were going to be doing soil borings … but they’re working through that. They’re trying to maneuver their soil borings outside of those areas so they can continue on with their work,” he said.
He noted CHA has received a revised draft construction agreement for the project with increased costs, and CHA is inquiring what those increased costs are for specifically.
At the meeting, the board also approved paying an invoice to CHA for engineering work on the project, with the total cost for the city amounting to around $190.
The board’s next meeting is 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Warsaw City Hall.
