Claypool Man Arrested After Assaulting Officer
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Claypool man was arrested after allegedly putting an officer in a headlock while resisting arrest.
Brandon Timothy Eads, 36, 304 W. Walnut St., Claypool, is charged with battery against a public safety official, a level 6 felony; and resisting law enforcement, criminal trespass, and invasion of privacy, all class A misdemeanors.
Around 1 a.m. May 18, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputy went to a location in Warsaw regarding a 911 hang-up. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a woman who said she contacted 911 about Eads being in her home. The woman said Eads came to the home uninvited and that she currently has a protective order against him.
According to court documents, Eads went to the woman’s home around 11 p.m. on May 17. The woman said she answered the door and told him to leave, but Eads walked into the home without permission. When the deputy asked Eads why he was there, Eads allegedly became agitated and paranoid, pacing around the residence. He refused to calm down and began arguing with the woman.
While waiting for other officers to arrive for assistance, Eads became confrontational with the county deputy. Eads made several attempts to start a fight. At one point, Eads attempted to grab the deputy’s taser, the court report said.
The deputy drew his taser and fired it at Eads, striking him in the abdomen. Eads stopped for a few seconds, then pulled the taser wires and broke them. He continued approaching the deputy, who fired another taser charge that struck his abdomen.
The deputy then dropped his taser and wrapped his arm around Eads’ head, taking him to the ground. Eads eventually was able to slip out of the hold and got behind the deputy, placing the deputy in a headlock.
The deputy was able to slip out of the hold and push Eads away. When additional officers arrived, Eads stopped resisting arrest.
Eads has already been arrested and released on bond.
