PIERCETON — Pierceton has approved a guidebook of sorts for its future.
At its regular meeting on Monday, June 13, the Pierceton Town Council approved its comprehensive plan. It will be used to help the town implement new programs if needed and the like.
The plan was completed by Taylor Siefker Williams Design Group of Indianapolis in connection with local leaders. The design group’s Principal Scott Siefker was on hand at Monday’s meeting to explain the process.
“So (awhile back) the county began some larger community conversations and formally about a year and a half ago began the process to update the comprehensive plan for the county and the participating communities,” said Siefker. “The last one for the county was 1996, so it probably was time to take a revisit.”
“So during that process, the comprehensive plan, we took a look at a variety of community activities including kind of a base line of where the county and various communities in the county are at in terms of demographics, population and some initiatives regarding perceptions that people may have about the county and community,” added Siefker.
The effort to develop the plan for the county and smaller communities within it was dubbed Forward Kosciusko. Those behind the effort also worked to gather information from the general public to develop the final comprehensive plans.
Some of the big elements included in the plan are “land use, transportation and utilities,” which Siefker noted state government requires entities to have in such documents.
Kosciusko County Commissioners adopted the county’s plan last month. People may find all the information on the county’s and Pierceton’s plans by visiting forwardkosciusko.com.
