DNA Testing Program Offered At North Webster Library

NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster Community Public Library will host, “DNA Testing Pros and Cons,” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, featuring Eric Migdal, It’s All Relative Genealogy LLC.
This will be a hybrid program, meaning patrons will come to the library while Migdal presents live via Zoom. While he will not be physically present, he will be able to answer attendees’ questions. Library personnel will handle all of the technology aspects of this program. Attendees do not need to know how to operate Zoom.
Migdal will explain options available through different DNA testing services, including the differences between Y-DNA, mitochondrial DNA and autosomal testing, as well as costs and pros and cons.
Migdal has more than 25 years’ experience in the genealogy field and assisting with understanding and using DNA results. This program is free but registration is required. Attendees can sign up at the library’s front desk or via phone at 574-834-7122.
Early Closing
NWCPL will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, for the Mermaid Festival.
Summer Reading
The NWCPL Youth Department will present the following summer activities.
Paws-to-Read takes place Mondays throughout the summer. Ages 5 to 12 can sign up for a time slot to read to a therapy dog.
Family story times are at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays throughout the summer.
The next monthly Lego time begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11.
Guardians of the Ocean aquarium show begins at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15.
Friday craft times, for ages 3-10, are set for 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Fridays. The theme for Friday, June 17, will be “Family, Food and Fun.” This program has limited seating, so participants will need to pick up their free tickets at the youth department desk.
Stevens Puppets will present, “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22.
The next Local Possibilities program is set for 10:30, 11 and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 23, featuring the Whalemobile. This event is for ages 5 and older. There is no cost to attend, but tickets will be required and are available at the youth department desk.

Teen Events
Signups are now on for teen Dungeons and Dragons. Space is limited, however there is a wait list. To register, contact the library and ask for Hanna. Gameplay begins at noon Wednesday, June 29.
The weekly Teen Café takes place from 3-5:30 p.m. Mondays. Teens can play Nintendo Switch, do homework, chat and enjoy snacks, beverages and coffee.
Adult Programs
Summer hours for Thursday Chair Dance for Fitness are 4 to 4:45 p.m. Let’s Move begins at 5 p.m.
Adults can sign up for the next craft class, set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 14. Participants will decorate a wooden mermaid tail window ornament.
The Glean Team genealogy group returns to the library Wednesdays at 10 a.m., beginning July 6.
