Earlene Hackworth, 82, of rural Akron, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
Earlene was born on Sept. 21, 1939, in Salyersville, Ky., to the late Clarence and Ethel (Smith) Poe.
She married on Dec. 2, 1960, in Salyersville, Ky., to James Hackworth; he survives.
She retired from Bendix, where she had worked for over 30 years. Earlene had attended Sweetwater Assembly of God of North Manchester and Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God of Silver Lake. Her life was dedicated to her family. She always enjoyed family gatherings and fish fries at the church.
She is survived by her husband James Hackworth of Akron; children Teresa and husband Bob Larson and David and wife Delilla Hackworth both of Akron; grandchildren Nicole and husband Frank Ledbetter, Brandon Larson, Jeremy Larson, Sherri and husband Justin Whitaker, Kayla and husband Zach Willett, and Jordyn Hackworth; great-grandchildren Hunter Larson, Annaleigh Turley, Mariah Ledbetter, Mallory Larson, Lincoln Whitaker, Jacob Willett, and Paxton Whitaker; a brother Kenneth Poe; and a sister-in-law Brenda Poe.
Earlene was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold “Pug” Poe, sister-in-law Patsy Poe, and a great-grandson Tyler Lee Willett.
The funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Frank Whitaker officiating.
The interment will take place following the service in the Athens Cemetery, Athens.
Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m, Tuesday, June 14, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
