ETNA GREEN — The Etna Green Town Council discussed a resident’s water issue and heard updates on town properties during a May 10 meeting.
Amber Chesterfield, who moved to the Etna Green Mobile Home Park in early April, said the water in her home has been turning her and her three young children’s skin orange.
Council Member Jason Hanes said water tests have been done by town employees with no results showing any issues with the water itself. Other residents on Chesterfield’s water line have not made any complaints to the town.
“When you think of children taking a bath, water gets in their mouth,” said Chesterfield. “What are they ingesting? It bothers me.”
Chesterfield also recalled an instance where there was a “horrendous” smell of chlorine and bleach in her home after water was ran in the kitchen sink for about 15 minutes.
“It’s almost like it’s (the water) oxidizing on our skin because it shows up like hours later,” said Chesterfield.
Chesterfield and Marsha Stiles commended town employees for being quick in their response when the problem was first reported.
Council said they will continue to have town employees work with Chesterfield on determining the issue.
In other business, Eric Blackwell provided further updates on the building at 111 N. Walnut St. He said Bryan Moriarty, who was at the meeting to request a letter of approval from the council on a different property, has expressed an interest in purchasing the building from him.
Moriarty asked for a letter of approval to send to the county regarding the allowance of an accessory building to remain on a tract of ground without a residence. The building would be in the area of 120 W. Broadway St. The council voted to send a letter of approval.
A public hearing was also held regarding property annexation at the northwest corner of West CR 300N and North CR 950W. Joey Slone, owner of Joey’s RV in Atwood, is requesting the property be annexed into town boundaries. No one present at the meeting commented on the annexation.
Council will vote on the petition for annexation during their June 14 meeting.
The council also:
- Approved hiring Travis Bays as a part-time employee. Bays will do mowing work for the town and will start this week.
- Heard from Mike Losier, managing director of sales and strategy at Surf Broadband Solutions, that the company is done building fiber optic cables for Internet services in the area.
- Agreed to send a letter to a resident on High Street regarding the town’s noise ordinance. Two people have made complaints to Clerk-Treasurer Patti Cook about a dog constantly barking.
