MENTONE — Amanda Yaprak is Mentone’s new clerk-treasurer.
She was selected in a GOP caucus on Tuesday, May 10, to replace Nicki Norris, who resigned at the end of April.
GOP precinct committeemen Ed Rock and Ann Wiesehan voted in the event. Yaprak was selected over Tammy Stoneburner.
Before the vote was taken, both candidates had time to speak.
Yaprak mentioned that she was a 2002 Tippecanoe Valley High School graduate and served in the U.S. Air Force for six years.
“I … kept coming back to Mentone, so this is where I planted my roots,” she said. “I have an extensive background in banking, nonprofit. I’ve worked with manufacturing.”
She has two sons, ages 15 and 8. The older will be an Eagle Scout, and Yaprak helps with his Burket Boy Scout troop.
Yaprak said she used the GI bill to obtain her bachelor’s degree in finance.
“I am self-motivated,” she said. “If there is a task that needs to be streamlined, I will jump right on it, no questions asked.”
“I’m very positive, focused on customer service and love Mentone. I can’t talk highly enough about this small community,” she said. She also added that she loved her family and her neighbors.
She also commented after she won the caucus.
“I’m excited and ready to get started … and work with a good set of people,” she said.
