Pierceton Man Faces Charges After Battering Man
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Pierceton man is facing two robbery charges after severely battering a man and stealing his belongings.
Andrew Joseph West, 33, 680 N. 850W No. 92, Pierceton, is charged with robbery resulting in bodily injury, a level 3 felony; robbery, a level 5 felony; and battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony.
On April 25, a Warsaw Police officer responded to a battery complaint. Upon arrival at the scene, the officer found a man in a driveway who appeared to be dazed.
According to court documents, the man had a one-inch gash on the left side of his head that was bleeding. He was taken to a local hospital’s emergency room by law enforcement.
The man told officers he was at a home helping a woman move when West came into the residence and attacked him. West punched the man numerous times and ordered the man to empty his pockets. West took possession of what was in the man’s pockets. Eventually, the man was able to flee the residence and ran to his vehicle, with West following closely behind him.
The man said he was unable to get in his vehicle before West opened the vehicle’s door, shoved him and ripped the vehicle’s keys out of the ignition. West also took the man’s cellphone. West still had the vehicle’s keys on him upon his arrest.
The man’s injury on the left side of his head required staples to close the wound.
West was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on April 25, with a $20,250 surety and cash bond.
