Silver Alert Update: Mother Found Dead; Child Is Safe

SOUTH BEND — An Elkhart County woman who has been missing since April 12 has been found dead.
On Monday, April 18, a Statewide Silver Alert was issued out of Elkhart County for Alexis Morales, 27; and her five-month-old son, Messiah Morales.
Messiah has been found alive and uninjured.
According to a Facebook post by the South Bend Police Department, officers were called to the 400 block of South Kaley Street on Tuesday, April 19, to investigate possible sightings of a vehicle connected to the Silver Alert.
Officers discovered Alexis and Messiah inside the vehicle. Alexis was pronounced deceased at the scene. Messiah was uninjured and was taken to a hospital for observation.
“The South Bend Police Department is working with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the circumstances surrounding Alexis Morales’ death and her prior disappearance,” read the post. “This is an ongoing investigation.”
