WARSAW — Curt Nisly’s campaign said it will file a complaint with state election officials over wording contained in his opponent’s campaign literature.
Nisly faces fellow State Rep. Craig Snow in the May 3 Republican primary in the race for District 22.
The two incumbent Republicans were thrust into competition against each other as a result of redistricting.
Nisly‘s been the representative of District 22 for eight years while Snow was first elected two years ago as the District 18 representative.
But redistricting, settled by the Indiana General Assembly earlier this year, shifted Snow into the 22nd District.
Nisly’s campaign chairperson, Pam Galloway, issued a statement on Monday saying they had reached out to the Indiana Election Commission.
“In essence, Mr. Snow is trying to represent himself as the incumbent legislator in District 22. We believe candidates have a responsibility to present accurate information to the voters. It is clear that the false information in this mailer was designed to persuade voters to vote for Snow.”
Galloway contends Snow is misrepresenting himself and said she has reached out to the Indiana Election Commission and asked that they issue a cease and desist order that would prevent Snow from distributing any more of the pamphlets in question.
Snow said he was a bit surprised to learn about the complaint and called it “ridiculous.”
“I think my voters are probably looking for me to focus on things like lowering taxes, and fighting abortion and fixing our roads and working on child care and working with schools instead of worrying about things like this,” Snow said.
He added, “It is not my intent to be deceitful. That’s the furthest thing from my mind.”
