Clifford Junior Janes
Clifford Junior Janes, 87, Bourbon, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2022, after a short stay at Goshen Hospital.
Junior was born on June 20, 1934, in Troy, Ohio, to the late Clifford Jimmie and Zella C. (English) Janes. He graduated from Bourbon High School in 1953 where he was a member of the basketball team.
He proudly served in the Army by answering the draft in February 1957 and was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he met the love of his life, Jean Yvonne Adams, of Clarksville. The couple married on Sept. 26, 1959, in Jeffersonville and settled in Bourbon shortly after.
Junior worked for 18 years as a cabinet maker at Mutschler Brothers, Nappanee, where he discovered a passion for woodworking. He officially retired from Indiana Press in Plymouth in 1997 at the age of 62.
During retirement, Junior could be found tending to his woodworking, maintaining an immaculate yard, throwing horseshoes, camping and wintering in Sebring, Fla.
He rarely missed the opportunity to watch a Hoosier basketball game or attend a grandchild’s event. Junior relished in helping both his children and grandchildren with their 4-H projects at the Marshall County Fair.
Junior had a servant’s heart and took pride in serving his community. He was on the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. He also spent countless hours coaching and umpiring Bourbon Little League baseball and refereeing high school basketball.
While wintering in Florida, he was always willing to lend a hand to his neighbors and helped them maintain their homes.
Junior is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Jean; and his daughters, Kim (Jon) Bates, Bourbon, and Stephanie Menker, Dublin, Ohio. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Jennifer (Wes) Backus, Jeff (Alisha) Bates, Kirk (Laura) Bates, Thomas (Hadley) Menker, and Anna Menker; along with five great-grandchildren, Landon, Owen, Luke, Harper and Sutton.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Zella; and an infant sister, Sarah Pearl.
The family will receive friends and family during a visitation from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, at the Bourbon First United Methodist Church, 204 N. Washington St., Bourbon, followed by a celebration of life ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bourbon First United Methodist Church, 204 N. Washington St., Bourbon, IN 46504, or the Marshall County 4-H Swine Project, 112 W. Jefferson St., Suite 304, Plymouth, IN 46563.
