Syracuse Library Seeking Volunteers To Clean Trail
News Release
SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Public Library has adopted a small segment of the 12-mile Syracuse-Wawasee Trail and is now seeking volunteers to help keep it maintained. Both adults and teens are invited to join the library staff in this endeavor to keep our community looking beautiful while enjoying some outdoor time.
Since both organizations are nonprofits, time spent helping qualifies for volunteer hours. If you’re interested in volunteering, leave your name and availability to join SPL’s trail team either at the library or by contacting Becky Brower at [email protected] or (574) 457-3022.
Children and spring break
Don’t forget to visit the library during spring break week. Each day will have a different theme: game day, Monday, April 4; Lego day, Tuesday, April 5; “Where’s Waldo” day, Wednesday, April 6; and play dough and clay creation day, Thursday, April 7. On these days, children can drop in during library hours to enjoy activities tied into the day’s theme. There will be a special Lego Jell-O program from 2-3 p.m. April 5, with a showing of “The Lego Batman Movie” following at 6 p.m.
The week culminates with a tour at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, of Sweetwater, 5501 US 30W., in Fort Wayne. Everyone will meet at Sweetwater for the tour, which will include the company’s history, a peek at its behind-the-scenes recording studios, a chance to go down its giant slide and more.
Space is limited to 25 people, so registration is required. Register in person at the library or online at https://bit.ly/3CEyqjM. If you have questions or have plans change after registration, contact Rebekah Sceniak at [email protected] or (574) 457-3022.
Monthly meetings
The Friends of the Syracuse Public Library will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7. Since this meeting occurs before the library officially opens, knock on the Harrison Street door to enter. The Friends support the Syracuse Public Library with their ongoing book sale, which is stationed upstairs in the library.
Meanwhile, teens can swing by the library for teen gaming, which meets from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in the downstairs meeting room.
Finally, The Workshop, an adult writing group, will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9. Writers and poets of all walks of life — beginners or published — are welcome to attend and share pieces or get feedback.
