Wagon Wheel Hosting Dog Auditions For “Legally Blonde”
Press Release
WARSAW — Does your dog have what it takes to be a star on the Wagon Wheel stage?
The Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts is searching for two dogs in their upcoming summer production of “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”
Requirements for Bruiser (Elle’s dog):
- A Chihuahua or any toy-sized pooch that would easily fit in a handbag. If you have outfits or accessories for the dog, Wagon Wheel staff would love to see them.
Requirements for Rufus (Paulette’s dog):
- A British Bulldog, as appeared in the film “Legally Blonde” starring Reese Witherspoon. Open to other breeds, but they need to have a fairly bullish and robust look about them. Cute and fluffy is not what Wagon Wheel staff are looking for.
Potential canine performers must be relaxed, laid back, good with people and strangers, and enjoy a good fuss. They must respond to commands such as “come here” and “sit.”
Although absolutely not essential, if the dog auditioning has some form of stage experience of being around large crowds, it will be a huge bonus. Even the most confident of dogs can suddenly be affected by the lights, the orchestra, and the huge round of applause they are bound to receive on their big entrance. Crate training is also a bonus while they are enjoying their time offstage.
Rehearsals begin June 3 and the show runs June 16 to 25. There is minimal rehearsal during the day and weekends, but mandatory rehearsals are June 14 (evening), June 15 (afternoon and evening), and every performance.
If your canine would suit the show, e-mail a photo of your furry friend with a brief description to Jennifer Dow, associate artistic director. Don’t forget to include your own details and put “Dog Auditions” the subject bar. Submission deadline is May 1.
