Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, North SR 19, south of West CR 1350N, Nappanee. Driver: Ezra T. Schmucker, 78, North SR 19, Nappanee. Schmucker’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 6:52 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, North SR 13, north of East CR 800N, Warsaw. Driver: Joshua W. Green, 35, East CR 500S, Warsaw. Green’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 4:21 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, North SR 13, north of East CR 350N, Warsaw. Driver: Shayne L. Keel, 44, Indiana 5, South Whitley. Keel’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 9:23 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, West Levi Lee Road, west of North Old SR 15, Warsaw. Driver: Yvonne M. Coburn, 66, Yvonna Street, Leesburg. Coburn’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, West CR 100S, west of South CR 550W, Warsaw. Driver: Kyle W. Hamman, 23, North Morgan Street, Mentone. Hamman moved his vehicle over to make room for a large truck and his vehicle dropped off the roadway and struck a mailbox. Damage: Up to $1,000.
- 11:40 a.m. Friday, March 11, North CR 500E, south of East CR 1100N, Syracuse. Driver: Benjamin J. Champoux, 35, East Oldfield Drive, Leesburg. Champoux hit a patch of ice on the roadway. He couldn’t correct his steering, and his vehicle went off of the west side of the roadway and hit a utility pole and cable box. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 8:59 a.m. Friday, March 11, North SR 19, south of West CR 1100N, Warsaw. Drivers: Justin A. Beer, 19, West CR 1000N, Milford; and Matthew S. Shorter, 24, Dewy Street, Argos. Beer said the vehicles in front of him started stopping abruptly. He hit his brakes and started losing control of his car on the icy road conditions. His vehicle ended up sideways in the other lane where Shorter’s vehicle collided with his. Damage: Up to $25,000.
