WARSAW — An 18-year-old Warsaw man was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital after a vehicle pursuit resulted in an accident.
The accident occurred at 4:01 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, on West Prairie Street, near South Union Street in Warsaw.
According to an accident report by the Warsaw Police Department, Gavin P. Brown, Warsaw, was fleeing law enforcement on an orange 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. He fled from the area of North Detroit Street and Enterprise Drive and headed south on North Detroit Street.
Brown then turned west onto West Prairie Street toward the intersection of South Union Street. Brown failed to yield to traffic, traffic control signals, and a stop sign, the report said.
He disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of West Prairie Street and South Union Street, and struck a green 2014 Toyota Prius. Brown was wearing a helmet; however, upon hitting the Prius, his helmet flew off. Brown was flown from the scene for injuries sustained in the accident.
The Prius was operated by Bruce H. Andrews, 72, Kimmell. Andrews said he was traveling north on South Union Street. When he entered the intersection of West Prairie Street and South Union Street, his vehicle was hit by Brown’s motorcycle. Andrews’ seat belt needed to be cut off in order for him to be removed from his vehicle.
Andrews complained of chest pain. A passenger in his vehicle, Leslie L. Andrews, 69, Kimmell, sustained a contusion to one of her fingers. A second passenger in Andrews’ vehicle, Grayson Kelley, 11, complained of right ear pain due to impact from the vehicle’s airbag. Kelley and the Andrews were checked and treated by medics at the scene.
Both the motorcycle and Prius were towed from the scene.
A criminal investigation is ongoing at this time.
Damages are estimated at up to $5,000.
