WARSAW — The old Owen’s property on West Market Street in Warsaw will soon be demolished.
The old grocery store and a small apartment building is owned by the city and will be demolished to make way for a multi-story apartment building that will have a parking garage and some retail space.
In recent days, a perimeter fence was erected around the block. On Wednesday, March 2, a crew from Environmental Management Specialists, of Huntertown, was removing asbestos from the site.
The plans for the development are still progressing.
Jeremy Skinner, the city’s director of community and economic development, said there are still “a few hurdles” to get over before plans are finalized and announced.
The demolition, he said, will start soon regardless of the development.
