Trucker Killed In Toll Road Accident
News Release
SHIPSHEWANA — A truck driver from Pennsylvania who was standing well away from traffic on the Indiana Toll Road died after being run over by another truck.
The accident happened shortly after midnight on Sunday, Feb. 20, on the I-80/90 Toll Road near Shipshewana in LaGrange County.
Shamshitdin Nuridinov, 45, of Morrisville, Pa., died at the scene.
Nuridinov had been driving a 2019 Volvo semi-tractor/trailer that apparently ran out of fuel and had become disabled on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes, according to Indiana State Police.
Nuridinov had exited his vehicle and was standing well off the road in the side ditch, where he was engaged in a phone call with his trucking company dispatcher when a semi-tractor/trailer in the right westbound lane crossed over the white fog line.
The truck struck the left rear of the semi-trailer, then side-swiped the cab, veered off-road ahead of the disabled semi, crashed through a guard rail, ran over Nuridinov, and then came to rest after impacting a concrete abutment.
The other truck driver, Joseph Jett, 35, of Ambridge, Pa.., was not injured, but was taken to a hospital to be checked out due to the severity of the accident.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved.
