City Offers Advice Ahead Of Storms
News Release
WARSAW – The city of Warsaw is offering some advice ahead of the upcoming heavy rains and snow.
The National Weather Service has upgraded its forecast, which now calls for 6-10 inches of snow on Thursday, Feb. 17. An earlier forecast predicted 3-6 inches.
As heavy rain and a winter storm approach, the city is asking residents to be prepared and consider the following:
- Help keep storm drains open to reduce flooding.
- Keep fire hydrants clear of snow and ice.
- Move vehicles off of city streets, where possible, to help with plowing.
- Clear sidewalks near school zones to allow children to travel safely to school.
- Plan to clear snow at the end of driveways after plows have come through. Consider helping neighbors who may be unable to do this. The snow with this system will be wet and heavy.
- Use caution when driving, as there may be flooding on roadways, ice, and drifting snow.
Emergency routes and main roads will be plowed first, and during the heaviest snowfall, they will be the main focus. Secondary roads will be opened next, followed by neighborhood streets and alleys. Plows will run 24 hours a day during the storm.
With the Flood Watch in effect, the Public Works Department will have sandbags available for City of Warsaw residents only. If sandbags are needed, call (574) 372-9561 for arrangements. You may also call (574) 267-5667, option 3, for assistance.
A warming station will also be available at Fellowship Missions, 1520 Winona Avenue, Warsaw.
