WARSAW — The Warsaw Community Public Library Board of Trustees discussed agency digital library service cards during a brief meeting on Monday, Feb. 14.
WCPL Assistant Director Joni Brookins said the most requests for library cards come from people residing at homeless shelters or domestic violence shelters.
“It’s a population that could really use access to the library, but it’s a transient population,” said Brookins. “What we’ve come up with is what we’re calling an agency digital services card. We would issue an agency card to the agency, but we would treat it like a family card, in that every person who wanted one could get a card. It works out for everybody. We thought that was our best bet to help the population who needs it and not hurt our services, or make it harder for us to offer our services.”
Brookins said the library is in the process of working that out and hopes to have the agency digital services cards in effect by the end of February.
Brookins also told the board WCPL was closed for a couple days in the beginning of February due to a winter storm.
The board’s next meeting is at 4 p.m. Monday, March 14. WCPL’s board retreat, initially scheduled to take place following the February meeting, was rescheduled to March since Library Director Ann Zydek was absent.
