Milford Public Library — Show The Library Some Love
News Release
MILFORD — It’s Valentine’s Day this week and a great time to love your library. How do I show my library some love?
Make a donation to help pay for a program or a book or DVD. Give a donation to the Milford Public Library Endowment Fund. Try the digital collection and let library staff know what you think. Join the Friends of the Milford Public Library and become an official supporter of the library.
Sign your children up for virtual story time. Make a weekly visit to the library part of your regular routine. New books and movies arrive all the time. If you don’t see what you are looking for, they can probably borrow it from another Evergreen library.
February Lego Challenge
The February Lego Challenge is to make an igloo. Send a picture to the email below to be considered for this month’s prize drawing. Your igloo can be big or small or anything else you want. Use your imagination. After you’ve built your igloo, submit a photo to [email protected] by Feb. 21 for a chance to win a new Lego kit. The winner will be picked by staff vote. No library card needed. This challenge is for children ages 18 and under.
Adult Reading Club
This year’s Adult Reading Club theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.” The club is open to anyone 18 years of age and older. It is simple to join the reading club and it’s free to participate. For every book or e-book you read or audio book you listen to, you can put your name into a weekly drawing to receive a prize. The books can be from the library or ones you have purchased privately, but they suggest you try and read materials that are new to you. You could win a $25 gift card just by enjoying books, e-books or audio books. Sign up today for your chance to win.
Feb. 19 is the last day to submit a photo of your pet dressed as a sea creature. Any creature you would find in the ocean is a possible costume for your pet. It can be a costume you made or one you bought. All photo entries must be submitted by 6 p.m. Feb. 19 to [email protected]. The winner will be chosen by library staff. The winner of the contest will get a $50 gift card to PetSmart.
Weather Delays And Closings
Now that we are well into the winter season, should the library need to open late or close early or all day due to inclement weather, it will be posted on the Facebook page and announced on WNDU television channel. The library strives to keep its doors open during normal business hours and only closes when it is deemed unsafe for patrons and staff to travel because of dangerous weather conditions. If the library should need to be closed, any material due back during the closing will be given an extended due date.
Virtual Winter Story Time
The library is offering two virtual story times — one at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday through March 9. Virtual story time is for children ages 3-6 years old. Miss Trisha will be reading stories that go with the themes: “Eskimos;” “Penguins and Polar Bears;” “Winter Sports;” and children’s author Mo Willems. Story time packets can be picked up the week before each story time. You will receive an email reminder with a link to story time and a list of things you need to complete the craft in the packet (scissors, glue, etc.). Call (574) 658-4312 and register your children for story time today.
Curbside Service
Due to the increase of COVID cases across the state of Indiana, the Milford Public Library is happy to provide you with curbside service. If you prefer not to enter the library, call (574) 658-4312 and request the materials you would like to check out. Library staff will gather your order and check it out. When you arrive at the south doors, call and someone will bring your order out to you. If you enter the building, wearing masks is your choice. Please practice social distancing while inside the building.
Help Wanted
Like many other businesses during COVID, the library has been experiencing a staff shortage. They have two part-time openings. Both are 29 hours a week and start at $9 an hour. One evening (until 8 p.m.) a week and at least one Saturday a month are required. The first position is in the children’s department. Your duties would include being a partner in story time and taking care of all overdues.
The second position is for a shared clerk, which means you would work two days upstairs in the adult and teen departments and three days in the children’s department. You would learn to catalog children’s materials and promote the library’s services through newspaper articles and social media. Applications are being accepted now. Apply at the adult circulation desk.
