WARSAW — Those choosing to lease hangars at the Warsaw Municipal Airport may have to pay different prices soon.
At its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Warsaw City Hall, the Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners had an initial discussion on changing hangar lease rates.
The rates will be different because the board plans to change the way it classifies hangars available to lease.
“Historically, we have always had small, medium and large hangars at the airport,” said Warsaw Airport Manager Nick King.
However, the Federal Aviation Administration is pushing the airport to classify hangars by square footage instead.
That could include land surrounding each hangar, which led to some debate among board members since some hangars are spaced further apart than others.
King noted any changes made would apply to new leases.
“We’re not going to go back and change all of the old leases, but when a new lease is signed moving forward, it would be based on the square footage that the board will charge,” he said.
King talked about including exhibits with new leases showing both the square footage each is being charged for and the amount of nonpermeable space for each hangar. The latter would be for calculating stormwater fees.
King added changing the classifications and rates wasn’t being done to generate more money and that some lessees could actually see a drop in the amount they’re paying.
