WARSAW — Joshua Lozano enjoys helping other people.
He noted that though he may not always have the skills to help with certain problems he’ll seek out others to help solve them.
That’s part of why Lozano, of Warsaw, is running for the District 3 seat on the Kosciusko County Council. Lozano has filed his candidacy to run as a Republican in the May 3 primary.
He’s the third candidate to enter the race, joining County Coroner Tony Ciriello and Warsaw NAPA Auto Parts marketing manager Scott Clay.
Lozano said people in District 3 have let him know they “often feel disenfranchised and underrepresented by elected officials.”
He said people have told him they want “proper representation that more truly reflects their values.”
Transparency is one of the issues that’s important to him. He said he’s heard people complain that they’re not aware of what county officials are discussing at meetings until they read stories in the local media afterward.
If elected, he would work to make sure people are informed about the council’s meeting agendas ahead of time.
Lozano said he also cares about retaining jobs. He noted while efforts often focus on getting people jobs that “job retention is really what helps our community.”
He also wants to work toward “cultivating stronger families” by helping those affected by suicide and substance abuse.
“I’ve learned the most about life and about serving others from my teachers, my coaches and my grandmother Maria Lozano,” he said.
He admires his grandmother whom he noted was the first Hispanic to serve as clerk-treasurer for Milford. He noted she came from nothing before being elected to that position.
Lozano said he believes that he is the one candidate who most closely aligns with “the average worker.”
He currently works for Aludyne of Pierceton, directing the training program there as well as consulting with Aludyne’s sister companies for training and helping with retention strategy. Previously, he worked as a teacher at Tippecanoe Valley High School.
He grew up in the area, graduating from Wawasee Community School Corp. He later graduated from Southeastern Freewill Baptist College with a degree in secondary education and is pursuing a Master of Divinity in exegetical studies at Grace Theological Seminary.
He and his wife Stephanie will celebrate their eighth anniversary this year. They have three children: Silas, Lazarus and Simeon.
