State’s COVID-19 Cases, Positivity Rates Increasing

WARSAW — On Thursday, Jan. 20, Indiana reported 17,491 new COVID-19 cases, marking the highest daily number the state has reported since the beginning of the pandemic.
Every single county in Indiana continues to remain in the “red” category on the Indiana Department of Health’s color-coded COVID-19 map. This map measures percent positivity and new cases per 100,000 residents, with the baseline for red being 15%.
Locally, Kosciusko County’s positivity rate has increased to 27.9%. Fulton, Wabash, Elkhart and Whitley County’s positivity rates have increased to 25.8%, 27.2%, 35% and 38%, respectively.
Marshall County’s positivity rate has decreased to 20.4%.
Since Jan. 20, Kosciusko County has reported five new COVID-19 deaths. This brings the county to 206 COVID-19 deaths and 18,498 positive cases.
Wabash County recently reported two new COVID-19 deaths. This brings Wabash County to 141 deaths and 8,082 positive cases.
More than 31,900 people in Kosciusko County have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
More than 3,631,000 Hoosiers are considered to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. According to statewide demographics, about 50% of those fully vaccinated are individuals who are 50 and older. About 53% of people fully vaccinated are female.
Statewide, the IDH website shows the number of COVID-19 deaths in Indiana rose to 20,296.
The total positive number of reported COVID-19 cases in Indiana is now at 1,574,807. More than 18,044,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered to Hoosiers.
Since the pandemic began, locally, Fulton County has reported 4,570 positive cases and Whitley County has reported 9,124 positive cases. Marshall County has reported 11,685 positive cases, Noble County has reported 12,302 positive cases, and Elkhart County has reported 51,467.
In other northern Indiana counties, Lake County has 102,394 positive cases; Allen County has 97,370 positive cases; and St. Joseph County has 66,870 positive cases.
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, about 872,000 people in the United States have died of COVID-19.
