WARSAW—Members of the city of Warsaw’s Board of Zoning Appeals on Monday, Jan. 24, approved a request for a variance involving the installation of a fence for the residents at 431 S. Detroit St.
Chase and Madison Cochran have resided in the house since early December and submitted a petition with the intention of fencing off a portion of the front yard for their miniature Goldendoodle to exercise.
“The main motivation for the fence is to give her an area to run around in and provide a little bit of protection from Detroit Street as it gets pretty busy,” said Cochran. Their much-beloved pet is currently staying with Madison Cochran’s parents.
According to City Planner Justin Taylor, the proposed 3.5-foot vinyl fence would surround the property’s perimeter and include an access gate to the public sidewalk. “The surrounding area contains several fences visible from the road, including privacy and chain-link,” said Taylor.
While Cochran conceded that 3.5 feet was in fact the agreed-upon height, he inquired as to whether it might be possible to adjust the said height to 4 feet.
Taylor said they would set a limit at 4 feet. “It’s not going to interfere with traffic or visibility, so we would be fine with that,” he said.
The motion to approve the 4-foot variance request, made by member Tammy Dalton and seconded by fellow member Jeff Johnson, was approved 5-0.
Additionally, Tom Allen and Rick Keeven were re-elected as president and vice president, respectfully, by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
