Claypool Man Arrested For Domestic Battery, Strangulation
Staff Report

Matthew Earl Manns
WARSAW — A Claypool man was recently arrested for allegedly battering and choking a woman.
Matthew Earl Manns, 35, 110 Warner Drive, Claypool, is charged with domestic battery with moderate bodily injury and strangulation, both level 6 felonies; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Dec. 14, 2021, a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a battery report. Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with a woman who said she asked Manns to move out. The woman said Manns was initially fine with the decision, collected some of his belongings and placed them in his vehicle.
According to court documents, when Manns returned from placing items in his vehicle, he allegedly became aggressive toward the woman and started yelling at her. He began choking the woman with one hand, making it difficult for her to breathe. While trying to get Manns’ hand off her throat, she scratched his face. Manns then let go of the woman and followed her into a bedroom.
He pulled the woman off of a bed, grabbed her by her left arm and begged her not to call the police.
Manns then took more items out to his vehicle, returned to the home and started pushing the woman several times until she fell on her shoulder.
The deputy documented bruises to both sides of the woman’s neck, as well as bruising to her left arm and right shoulder.
At the time of this incident, Manns was on formal probation for a methamphetamine possession case.
For this case, Manns was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Jan. 20, with a $6,000 surety and cash bond.
