Fulton County Traffic Stop Results In Michigan Man’s Arrest

ROCHESTER — A weekend traffic stop by Indiana State Police in Fulton County resulted in the arrest of a Michigan man.
At 10:17 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, Indiana State Police Troopers Jesse Reason and Blake Sarver initiated a traffic stop on a 2001 Buick passenger car on US 31 near SR 25 for allegedly traveling 72 mph in a posted 60 mph zone.
During the traffic stop, Jason Werry, 38, Howard City, Mich., was identified as the driver. While the troopers were speaking with Werry, they noticed indicators that criminal activity was afoot.
In a subsequent search of the Buick, officers found a handgun, over four pounds of marijuana, about 19 grams of methamphetamine, prescription medication, drug paraphernalia, a stolen license plate, and a stolen laptop computer.
The troopers were able to use identifying information from the laptop computer to track down its owner; the owner drove to Peru to pick up the computer, which had been reported stolen from Kent County, Mich.
Werry was incarcerated in the Fulton County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, dealing methamphetamine, dealing a legend drug, dealing marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana, theft from a motor vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Assisting with the traffic stop were Troopers Mike Meiser and Dustin Powers.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
