Area Accident Reports
Kosciusko County
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office investigated the following accidents:
- 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, North CR 150W, north of West CR 300N, Warsaw. Drivers: Raymond M. Cruz, 51, West CR 250S, Warsaw; and Lora S. Hackworth, 46, North CR 150W, Warsaw. Cruz couldn’t stop his vehicle in time due to the icy road conditions and it hit Hackworth’s vehicle, which then hit a pole. Cruz complained of shoulder pain and was checked out by medics on scene. Hackworth complained of head pain and was taken to the hospital. Damage: Up to $50,000.
- 7:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, South CR 400W, north of West CR 100S, Warsaw. Driver: Garret L. Sommers, 29, North Old US 31, Rochester. Sommers lost control of his vehicle on the roadway due to the ice. His vehicle went off the road and hit a mailbox and then a large rock. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 6:34 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, West CR 1350N, north of North CR 600W, Nappanee. Driver: Darin J. Schwartz, 18, CR 56, Nappanee. Schwartz’s vehicle slid off the road and hit a pole. Schwartz was checked out by medics on scene. Damage: Up to $10,000.
- 5:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, East CR 500N, west of North CR 850E, Leesburg. Driver: Sean M. Huff, 25, North Randolph Street, Garrett. Huff was passing a vehicle when he lost control of his vehicle on the icy road. His vehicle went off the roadway and hit a pole then a sign. Damage: Up to $25,000.
- 1:49 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, West CR 1350N, west of North CR 700W, Nappanee. Driver: Michael A. Islas, 36, South Eighth Street, Goshen. Islas pressed the brake on his vehicle as it neared a horse-drawn buggy in front of him. His vehicle then slid off the road and hit a tree. Damage: Up to $25,000.
- 11:27 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, North CR 800W, north of West CR 640N, Etna Green. Driver: John N. Hobstetter, 70, Chestnut Avenue, Winona Lake. Hobstetter’s vehicle slid off the roadway due to there being ice on it. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 11:25 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, South SR 25, south of Rozella Road, Warsaw. Driver: Peyton D. Dobbins, 16, Woodlawn Drive, Warsaw. Dobbins began to pass a van in front of her vehicle. She lost control of her vehicle on the slick roadway. Her vehicle went off the roadway and hit a pine tree. She and her passenger were checked out by Lutheran EMS. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 7:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, West CR 550N, east of North CR 600W, Warsaw. Driver: Morgynn L. Summers, 23, West CR 550N, Warsaw. Summers’ vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $2,500.
- 5:45 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, East Old Road 30, east of South CR 325E, Warsaw. Driver: Brianna I. Tran, 19, Brallier Road, Pierceton. Tran’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $5,000.
Syracuse
Officers with the Syracuse Police Department investigated the following accident:
- 2:28 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, East CR 900N, west of SR 13, Syracuse. Drivers: Caige P. Wahlgren, 25, North Turkey Creek Road, Syracuse; and Donald J. McCulloch, 78, East CR 1250N, Syracuse. Wahlgren said his vehicle slid on ice and hit McCulloch’s vehicle. Damage: Up to $10,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
- 5:01 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, North Fox Farm Road, south of Southside Drive, Warsaw. Driver: Angel L. Hernandez Munguia, 20, Hillside Drive, Warsaw. Hernandez Munguia’s vehicle hit a deer. Damage: Up to $5,000.
- 2:49 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, West Lake Street and North Zimmer Road, Warsaw. Driver: Faith N. Bradford, 19, North Morgan Street, Mentone. Bradford’s vehicle slid on the road and her vehicle hit the curb on the left side of her lane of travel in the entrance of the roundabout. Damage: Up to $2,500.
