Church Donation Will Be Used For JCAP Classes, Supplies
Staff Report
WARSAW — A $25,000 donation made to the Kosciusko County Jail Chemical Addiction Program (JCAP) by the North Webster Church of God this fall will be used to cover classes and supplies.
JCAP is a program designed to tackle substance abuse issues suffered by many inmates.
The donation is the largest financial contribution so far and was a much-needed boost for a program that is largely donation-funded.
“Donations are our bread and butter,” said JCAP Coordinator Courtney Jenkins. “Every penny counts. We currently have help from Indiana Sheriff’s Association to cover our mental health expenses, but every other part of the program is donation funded.”
Items that will be covered with the donation from North Webster Church of God include classes such as high school equivalency tutoring and testing, ServSafe food handlers safety course, Art classes and job readiness as well as supplies like interview and fitness clothes, graduation expenses, workbooks for SMART Recovery, journals, anger management books and other class supplies and incentives.
The cost of running JCAP for one year, which includes six groups, is about $90,000. That doesn’t include Jenkins’ salary, which is covered through the sheriff’s office budget.
JCAP was launched at the Kosciusko County Jail in October of 2018. The first group of JCAP participants graduated in February 2019.
