NORTH WEBSTER — One person is being treated for hypothermia after a boat capsized on Webster Lake.
It happened on Saturday morning, Dec. 11. Authorities were notified at 11:16 a.m., and they believe the boat capsized at 10:30 a.m.
Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Trenton Stackhouse, 27, of Milford, and Darick Stiles, 27, of Warsaw, were hunting for waterfowl on Webster Lake.
After getting underway, the men quickly realized the conditions were too difficult to overcome, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The men attempted to gather their decoys and return to the boat ramp, when large waves overtook their jon boat and it began to sink.
They then used a floating gun case and several waterfowl decoys to help them make it back to the shore. Once there, one of the two, Stackhouse, passed out from hypothermia.
Stiles went for help by going to houses along the shore. He kicked in several doors and filled a bathtub with warm water to help his friend, said DNR District 1 Officer Matt Maher.
That caused a burglary alarm to go off and sent Kosciusko County Sheriff’s officers to the scene.
Stackhouse was being treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
