WARSAW — Three Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies will soon graduate from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
Kosciusko County Sheriff Kyle Dukes made the announcement at the Sheriff’s Merit Board meeting Wednesday, Dec. 8. The deputies, Elizabeth Johnson, Chad Stover, and Landon Cornell, will graduate on Thursday, Dec. 9.
These three are the last remaining deputies on staff to go through the academy.
New Radios
The merit board also heard from Sheriff’s Office Capt. Travis Marsh that the office is to hear back soon if they have received a Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for buying new radios.
The office plans to get 84 portable and 70 mobile radios. As Marsh pointed out though, “We have radios coming one way or the other.”
That’s due to county officials approving using American Rescue Plan funds for police departments and other agencies to get new radios that are needed as the county upgrades its communication system. If the sheriff’s office gets the grant, ARP funds for the radio project can be returned to the county.
In other business, the board:
- Heard from Sheriff’s Office Jail Commander 1st Sgt. Shane Coney that 244 people were incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail as of the meeting Wednesday. Two corrections officers have recently been hired and the department wants to hire two more.
- Approved keeping the same merit board leadership positions for 2022, with Ron Truex to serve as president and Antony Garza as secretary.
