Kosciusko Community YMCA Pauses Merger Plan Due To Long-Term Ramifications
Press Release
WARSAW — The Kosciusko Community YMCA pulled out of negotiations to merge with the City-County Athletic Complex (CCAC) as part of an initiative to expand wellness opportunities in Kosciusko County.
After reviewing the terms set forth by the CCAC, the YMCA determined that the merger, given the desire contractual requirements and financial support implications, poses more risk than is prudent to continue to pursue.
“While we see a lot of synergy between our organizations, we are disappointed that we could not come to an agreement,” said YMCA Chief Executive Officer Jim Swanson. “Our first priority for our community is to create innovative and accessible wellness opportunities. Unfortunately, the CCAC’s terms for this merger would have inhibits us from achieving that goal.”
After several months of positive discussions, the partnership ultimately fell through due to the concerns expressed by the Kosciusko County Convention, Recreation and Visitors Commission (KCCRVC) Board, as noted in the Nov. 13 InkFreeNews article, which would likely impact funding and the CCAC contractual requirements. The YMCA looks forward to pursuing other opportunities that will benefit the health needs of the community.
