WARSAW — A teenager was arrested after allegedly battering a woman and threatening a child.
Mikayla Michelle Franklin, 19, 248 Hillside Ave., Roanoke, is charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child and intimidation, both level 6 felonies; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On Oct. 7, Warsaw Police officers responded to a fight in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, officers spoke with two women, one of which being Franklin. Two children who were at the scene when the incident occurred fled and ran to a nearby store.
According to court documents, the two children said they were playing video games when Franklin entered the room and began yelling. One of the children said Franklin told them to leave and threatened them.
The two children left the home and called 911. Before they left, one of the children said they saw Franklin hitting a woman at the home with closed fists. Both children also said they saw Franklin swing a bag toward the woman. Based on the sound the bag made, the children believed the bag contained broken glass.
Officers spoke with the woman who was allegedly battered by Franklin. The woman said the fight was verbal only and denied being hit by Franklin. She said Franklin only shoved her. Officers noticed the woman had redness on her jaw, as well as a large red scratch on her neck and chest area.
Franklin told officers that she brought items to the woman’s home for dinner. She said she yelled at one of the children and threatened them. Franklin also said she swung a bag of food toward a wall and unintentionally hit the woman with it. Franklin told officers she shoved the woman but did not hit her.
Franklin has been arrested and released on bond.
