WARSAW — Kosciusko County Recycling Depot Education Coordinator Courtney Zink has been busy with several projects.
During a Nov. 9 Solid Waste Management District meeting, Zink detailed the tasks she’s been handling in her new job.
“A lot of our focus has been on our social media campaigning,” said Zink. “(Recycling Depot Director) Tom (Ganser) and I decided we really wanted to leverage composting through the month of November and make that our topic of discussion through our social media outlets. I’ve been doing daily posts about any topics related to composting. We’ve had a lot of interaction with that and engagement. I’m really enjoying that piece.”
Zink also contacted each town and city within Kosciusko County about curbside leaf pickup; she created a separate social media post for each area’s requirements, duration of leaf pickup, and contact information. December’s social media posts will focus on how to recycle right and issues with holiday waste.
For in-person education, Zink will soon be going to Jefferson Elementary School to teach a recycling education lesson. There are also plans for her to teach a composting lesson to the entirety of Leesburg Elementary School’s first grade in February or March of next year.
The board’s next meeting is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7.
