Warsaw Man Arrested For Domestic Battery
Staff Report
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after allegedly battering a woman to a point where she went to a hospital for treatment.
Joseph Michael Detrick, 49, 812 E. Main St., Warsaw, is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury; a level 6 felony; and interference with the reporting of a crime, a class A misdemeanor.
On Oct. 13, a Warsaw Police officer went to a local hospital regarding a battery report and spoke with a woman who was upset and crying.
According to court documents, the woman said she was in a physical altercation with Detrick. She said they were arguing when Detrick allegedly hit her on the left side of her face, causing her to fall to the ground.
When she got up and went to the bathroom, the woman noticed her eye was swollen and her vision was blurry. She told Detrick she was calling the police, at which point Detrick took her phone. He then began to hit her with a shoe.
The officer noticed the woman’s left thigh and back were red and swollen. She said three children were present at the time of the altercation.
The officer then spoke with Detrick about what happened. He said he and the woman were arguing when she became verbally belligerent and shoved him against a door.
Detrick said he slapped the woman, which caused her to fall. He told the officer that the woman also shoved him against a sink and punched him in the jaw; Detrick then pushed the woman away and hit her back and leg with a flip-flop. He said he didn’t have any marks or injuries from the altercation.
Detrick has been arrested and released on his own recognizance. He has an initial hearing at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, in Kosciusko Superior Court Two.
